14 Sep 2009 - 16mm Railway
Heavy site excavation has continued. Some of the original block work will be replaced as it has suffered from 13 years of weather. The main track bed is planned to be concrete based with reinforcing to counteract the constant ground movement. The inner loop will have a wide base to accommodate steaming and marshalling lines alongside a through track. For more information, see Dave.

13 Sep 2009 - Autumn Running Day
We have enjoyed fine weather on each monthly running afternoon since May 2008 - until today. Slight drizzle which did not amount to much but the temperature was definitely more late than early autumn. A deceptively slow start for passenger numbers (we don't do customers!), then the queue grew to possibly a record length for most of the afternoon. The small engines worked hard but could not cope with such numbers on their own and the double headed train was a welcome site when it was put into service pulling around seven coaches. An improved and expanded station layout are being discussed, watch this space!

09 Aug 2009 - Summer and Steam
The August running day enjoyed pleasant summer weather and a good selection of large and small steam locomotives. Trains were running early for a pre-arranged party then it was quiet for a deceptively short time before the picnic and train watching area filled up and the queue grew steadily. The chairman spoilt the station staff, drivers and guards bringing several trays of drinks (tea and coffee of course) A number of visitors enquired about membership and about six trains were filled after the ticket office closed, some just didn't want to go home! Only two more running days for this year, don't miss out. Bring a picnic (or get refreshments at the clubhouse) and enjoy an afternoon away from it all.

26 Jul 2009 - Members Running Day
Cloudy and mostly mild weather (at least it didn't rain!).
The running day was a mixture of steam and electric visiting locos and much digging and clearing on the 16mm garden railway supervised by Dave. Will there be small steam activity here before winter? See events diary for next running dates (and BBQ)
Plans to create a loading area for larger locos with a traverser seem to be coming together and a second station area for train departures is being considered.

12 Jul 2009 - Public Running Day
Warm sunny weather (mostly) and a quieter start and end for passenger traffic. Nice to see a visiting 5in gauge steam loco hauling passengers.

05 Jul 2009 - Progress on new railway
Despite the hot weather, site clearance continues with vegetation and saplings removed from another section of the route of the new track. The large area of hardcore has disappeared under a concrete slab foundation ready for shed walls and roof. There may also be loading ramps and raised steaming bay for larger locomotives (anyone with a Garratt?) Then there's the real thing

20 Jun 2009 - 50th Anniversary
The weekend of June 20/21 saw many visiting model engineers and their engines, helping Cambridge MES celebrate 50 years at the current track site on the edge of Cambridge. Saturday had an extra attraction with a demonstration of a small metal foundry with lots of practical advice in casting metals. Sunday saw a re-enactment of the original opening ceremony in 1959. Many railway and other models were on display plus a working 16mm steam railway. Thanks to all for the work involved in setting up and running a very enjoyable weekend including the usual welcome refreshments.

14 Jun 2009 - Second running day brings warm sunny weather
Another sunny day and travelling numbers back down to last years numbers.
A welcome relief for station staff and train crews.
Still plenty of happy faces except occasionally when the last train ride was over....

10 May 2009 - Record breaker for start of 2009
Local radio and newspaper coverage made attendances at the railway an all time record.
Lots of happy families enjoyed the sunny afternoon riding trains and picnicing.
